Wonder.

The older I get, the more my sense of wonder grows. My curiosity drives me to look for beauty in unexpected places.

Wander.

“I ain’t never been here before.” That’s what my Dad would say when, after driving along a perfectly good highway, he’d take a surprise turn down an old gravel road. As a teenager, that seemed absurd and pointless. But as an adult, wandering seems like a perfectly good pastime. Necessary, almost. I spend a lot of time these days wandering parks and landscapes, looking for the beauty and curiousities in life.

Roam.

My husband Charlie, our senior cat Oscar, and I spent almost 2 years roaming the U.S. in a tiny pop-up camper. Life certainly changes when you quit your grown-up job and move into a home on wheels. Still, we’ve given up nomadic life (for now!) for a little house in Ohio. But that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped traveling. Adventure seems to follow us everywhere we go.

Susie Lankford is a writer, photographer, and self-proclaimed explorer.

She currently roams around Ohio and the Midwest.
